Tobacco use remains the largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States, yet nearly 43.8 million Americans, almost one in five, still smoke. Quitting is difficult and many times health care professionals want to believe that quitting is all up to the patient. "They will quit when they are ready and not before." But counseling patients helps them take that first step toward quitting smoking. We want to help increase your chances of success.

We encourage you to quit using cigarettes or chewing tobacco, or suggest you use the date to take the first step in a planned series of steps to reduce smoking. Here are helpful resources:
